On the Late Splendid Victory off Trafalgar

by ‘Mary’

Location: English-Language Poetry from Wales 1789–1806, rhif / no. 54

Nelson, thy sun is set! Britannia mourns!
Tow’rds her brave fleet her pensive eye she turns;
There Victory droops her head in deep dismay,
And rues the fortune of a glorious day
From her sad brow the bleeding laurels torn,
Wash’d by a nation’s tears, shall strew thy honour’d urn!

Mary, Carmarthenshire, Nov 9 1805.
